Whitaker Bank KHSAA Scholarship

Deadline: Feb. 25

For the fourth year Whitaker Bank, as part of its continuing title sponsorship of the Boys’ Sweet 16®, and the KHSAA will be presenting four one-time $1,500 scholarships. The scholarships are open to high school seniors that participate in KHSAA sanctioned sports and sport-activities. Winners will be recognized during the 2017 Whitaker Bank/KHSAA Boys’ State Basketball Tournament, March 15-19 in Lexington.

Kentucky Manufactured Housing Institute Scholarships

Deadline: April 1

Do you life in a modular, manufactured, or mobile home? Several $1,000 scholarships are being awarded to qualifying students. Applications are in the guidance office.


 

Shane Akers Memorial Scholarship

Deadline: March 15th

This scholarship will be given to a student pursuing a degree in technology attending a 2-year or 4-year college/university. The amount is $250. It was made in memory of Akers since her loved technology, gaming, and programming. Applications are available in guidance.


Science-Related Majors

Deadline: April 1st

This scholarship is available to any OHS student who wants to further their education in the science field.  Pick up an application in guidance today! The amount is $500.

To be eligible you must:

-Be an OHS senior

-Have an A or B average in all of your science classes

-Further your education in the science field

-Not be receiving any other scholarship funds to date

Planning on Majoring in Accounting?

Deadline Feb. 20

Kentucky Certified Public Accountants are giving scholarships to Accountant Majors. Go here for more info.


OCTC Freshmen scholarship

Deadline April 1st

OCTC are giving to freshman starting school in August on their campus. Please go here to submit the scholarship application. 


American Society for Quality

Deadline March 31st

ASQ is a $500 scholarship.  Applications can be picked up in guidance. Everyone qualifies for this scholarship if you live in Daviess County, will graduate in May, and attend a two or four-year college in August.


Jack Hicks OHS Alumni Scholarship

Deadline April 1st

Jack Hicks was a wonderful man dedicated to OHS and especially OHS baseball.  The scholarship is typically around $500 and applications are available in guidance.

To be eligible to apply you must:

-Be an OHS senior

-Have a 3.2 GPA minimum

-Plan to attend a four-year college/university

-Be involved in 1 or more extracurricular activities


Old National Bank

Deadline March 3rd

Old National Bank is giving out a $1,000 scholarship. The requirements are as follows:

-Be a graduating senior with a Kid$ Start Savings account or ONB Student Checking Account

-Demonstrate Community Service and show proof of this work.

-A Letter of Rec

Early College Start @ WKU

For students wanting to study at WKU in the Fall after graduation. Perks of going to this program are Tuition for six credit hours, 10 meal/week, residence housing, social activities/outings.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC)

Deadline Feb. 1st

KYTC is offering scholarships again for those who plan to major in Civil Engineering or Engineering Tech School programs at either UK, WKU, or UofL Speed School.  The only set requirement I can find is a minimum ACT of 24 because of the difficulty in itself to get into one of these programs.  Please apply at this website.


Carter Tate Divine Memorial Scholarship

Due March 1st

To qualify you must be a senior of OHS, have a 3.0 unweighted GPA, and have two (2) letters of recommendation to submit.


James McNary & Joshua Logan Memorial Scholarship

Deadline March 31st

Factors which are considered in the holistic evaluation of the James McNary & Joshua Logan Memorial Scholarship applications include grades, leadership experience, extracurricular activities, awards and recognition, community service, and an essay.

One Owensboro High School senior will be awarded a $500 scholarship to be applied towards the costs of pursuing a post-secondary education.

To apply, students must complete the James McNary & Joshua Logan Memorial Scholarship application. The scholarship application is available here. A candidate will be chosen by April 15th, 2017 and will be presented the James McNary & Joshua Logan Memorial Scholarship at the Owensboro High School 2016-2017 Honors Program.

Ted Hitch Scholarship

Evansville Teachers Federal Credit Union will be continuing the Ted Hitch Scholarship Program.  Scholarships in the amount of $5,000 each will be awarded to 10 students in the Spring of 2017.  To qualify:

-The applicant or applicant’s parents/guardians must have been members of ETFCU for a least one year by March 3

-Have a minimum 3.75 GPA on a 4.0 scale

-You may not be an immediate relative of ETFCU officials and employees

Horn Foundation Scholarship

Deadline March 1st at 8:30

– Have a minimum 3.5 GPA (unweighted) OR 19 ACT score

-Finish high school within the year they apply

-Be an active member in a school, community or church organization

-Show financial need (this could be because of expense of the school you are going to and not just Free/Reduced status)

Up Homes Scholarship

Uphomes.ca is offering a scholarship for those 18-25 years old and with a minimum GPA of 2.5.  Please go to the link to learn more and apply. 


KY Farm Bureau

Deadline Feb. 28th 

KY Farm Bureau has several scholarships.  One completed application is all you need to be considered for all of their scholarships.  Copies of the application will be on the hanging rack in guidance with the other scholarship applications.


The Community Foundation of Louisville

Deadline March 15th

Jack Barnard Scholarship

Deadline March 15th

The Jack Barnard scholarship is available for Juniors or Seniors who may be interested. This scholarship is renewable up to $1500 per semester. To qualify you must be a current member of the Boys and Girls club.  Stop by the club to pick up an application.  Deadline is March 15th


Kimberly Merritt Scholarship

Deadline Feb. 17th

The Kentucky Association for College Admission Counseling is sponsoring our 2017 Kimberly Merritt “Achieve Your Dreams” Scholarship for interested Seniors.  Four $500 non-renewable scholarships will be given (one per region in Kentucky) to winning students.  The deadline is February 17th.

Flora Hornbeck Scholarship

Deadline Feb. 17th

   The Flora Hornbeck Scholarship awards scholarships to seniors who attend Apollo, Daviess County, and Owensboro.  Scholarships can be applied to tuition, housing, books, etc. to permit recipients to attend an accredited college or university in the United States.  OHS can award up to 15 $1,000 scholarships!!!  To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Have a minimum 2.75 GPA
  • Finish high school within the year they apply for the scholarship
  • Show financial need

Completed applications must be submitted to Mrs. Fogle no later than February 17th.  Please see Mrs. Fogle if you have any questions.

Once you have done that make sure to APPLY for those scholarships.  It takes a little bit of time but pays off big time down the road.  Also, several of you have been asking about local scholarships and most of those will become available in the spring.  Just make sure to read my e-mails.

On Sunday Sept. 25, the Owensboro Convention Center will be hosting the Career and College Expo. It is recommended to take your parents along with you. All grades are accepted.

The event is from 1-4 on Sunday Sept. 25.

Two $2,500 scholarships will be given to eligible Kentucky high school seniors to attend any two- or four-year accredited college or university, in state or out.  OPS will be able to send one male and one female on for further consideration. 

 

To apply you must:

1.       Be the first member of your immediate family (parents, guardians, siblings) to complete degree requirements from an institution of higher education

2.       Have a minimum ACT reading score of 20

3.
Write a 500 word or less essay of why this scholarship would be helpful to you.  This must be submitted to Mrs. Fogle by September 23rd to be considered to move forward.

Receive up to $25,000 for college with the Horatio Alger Scholarship!

This scholarship rewards students who possess the character to succeed in life.  They help students overcome the financial barriers of pursuing higher education.  To qualify, you must have at least a 2.0 GPA and require financial assistance to go to college.  To learn more and apply, visit scholars.horatioalger.org.

The eligibility criteria to be considered for Horatio Alger National and State Scholarships are as follows:

·         Be enrolled full-time as a high school senior in the United States with plans to enter college no later than the Fall semester following graduation

·         Exhibit a strong commitment to pursue and complete a bachelor’s degree at an accredited non-profit public or private institution in the United States

·         Demonstrate critical financial need ($55,000 or lower adjusted gross family income is required)
